Home to an expansive collection of World War II aircraft and other memorabilia, the Palm Springs Air Museum offers educational programs, flight demonstrations and tours. The aircraft collection at the Palm Springs Air Museum includes a F4F Wildcat, F4 Phantom, F-18 Hornet, F6F Hellcat, A4 Skyhawk and about two dozen other flyable crafts, many of which are flown for visitors to enjoy.
The Museum offers regular educational programs including the Wednesday night speaker series—an aviation expert shares a bit of history through storytelling from various periods in aviation accomplishment. There are also regular events throughout the year, including an annual gala and a visit from Santa during the holiday season.
Group tours are offered between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily and require advanced reservations. A docent will lead the group through the Palm Springs Air Museum collections explaining the history and interesting facts that visitors will find interesting. Tours run about 1.5-2 hours for groups of 15 or more. The Palm Springs Air Museum also offers special tours for youth and educational groups that include a hands-on lesson in the science of flight with flight simulators. These tours can be scheduled for groups of 10 or more at least two weeks in advance.
The Freedom Fighters Café offers a full menu of sandwiches, salads, soup and Mexican cuisine. The sandwich selections include tuna, turkey, chicken, roast beef, ham and a veggie wrap. Other entrée items include beef lasagna, tacos, chili con carne, quesadilla and a variety of Panini’s. Then, in the museum gift shop, browse through a number of rare and unusual World War II items including navigation charts, airplane accessories and pilot merchandise.
