Established in 1938, the Moorten Botanical Garden offers tours where visitors can learn about many of the animal and plant species native to the Palm Springs area. The relaxing environment is an ideal place for holding private events, weddings and other exciting events. There is also a nursery where visitors can shop for plants to take home and beautify their own gardens. Garden experts are on hand to offer guests advice for their own gardens and to make seasonal recommendations.
The Moorten family created this Mediterranean-style estate to capture and preserve the tranquil beauty of the desert. The Moorten family home, called Cactus Castle is located in the Palm Grove Oasis area and visitors can enjoy this spot for photo opportunities. Throughout the estate grounds, there are many lavish areas that make perfect backdrops for family and professional photo sessions.
The gardens feature desert trees, cacti of all sizes, fossils, rocks and a variety of crystals. There are more than 3,000 plants along the trails and a special exhibit of rare plants. The plants and cacti are grouped by native geographic region from Arizona, California, Colorado, Texas, South Africa and South America. The plant collections include agave, bombax, boojum trees and cereus. Some of the cacti varieties seen include species of Asclepiads, Aztecia, Euphorbia and Ferocactus.
